The director must talk to the residents to be certain that they are all content with the kind of care that they are being given. Any issues that arise must be handled and resolved. The director determines whether or not new pieces of equipment are appropriate for the nursing home and if the equipment can be afforded.

A director of the nursing home is responsible for interviewing new applicants and choosing which ones are right for the jobs required. The director determines whether the applicant's education and experience are right for the job, whether there is a need for new staff and that there is enough money in the budget to afford new staff. It is also the responsibility of the director to fire any staff who are not meeting the nursing home's quality standards. The director needs to make certain that all of the staff at the home is properly doing their job. They will also ensure that every member of the staff has the necessary training and will arrange training programs when necessary. All of the staff in a nursing home, including therapists, certified nurse assistants, licensed practical nurses, registered nurses, volunteers and doctors report to the nursing home director.

The director of a nursing home truly has a lot of responsibilities. Good directors will have a handle on everything which goes on in the facility, would expect a high quality of care from its staff and will not delay tasks unnecessarily.
